Concerns N84 Curraghline upgrade wont be carried out for 10 years

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A county councillor has expressed concern that motorists on the N84 Curraghline will have to wait a decade before upgrade works are carried out.

Councillor James Charity raised the issue at a meeting of the Athenry/Oranmore Municipal District.

He's worried that upgrade works to the N84 may be carried out in conjunction with the Galway city ring road - which he says is probably a decade away.

The county council submitted an application to Transport Infrastructure Ireland for 13.5 million euro in funding which would allow for the construction of a 2 and a half metre extension on both sides of the road from Ballindooley to Curraghmore bridge.

This extension would allow for a hard shoulder on both sides of the N84.

However, county officials say no progress has been made and the application is simply "in the queue".

Independent Councillor Charity says motorists can't be expected to keep waiting.
