Concern over regulatory provision impacting sale of turf

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A local TD has highlighted his frustration at a proposal to introduce restrictions on the sale of turf.

Roscommon/Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice says a regulatory provision is being considered which would place restrictions on the placing on the market, or sale of sod turf.

Under the proposal, the sale and distribution of such fuel would be banned from September 1st, according to the Environment Minister.

Bog owners would however maintain the right to cut turf for their own use.

Deputy Fitzmaurice says it's a bizarre move considering the fuel and heating crisis.
