Galway Bay fm newsroom - Community concerns over the actions of 'boy racers' at Kennedy's Cross in the Ballinakill area outside Loughrea were brought before a meeting of the county joint policing committee this week.
Local councillor Michael Moegie Maher said 10 to 12 families in the area are petrified to come out on the road.
He told the meeting boy racers are 'playing havoc' for the last couple of months with families with young children unable to sleep at 3 and 4am as the culprits perform doughnut manoevures and create noise disturbance.
Councillor Maher asked if an unmarked car could carry out patrols in the area in a bid to deter the behaviour.
A Garda representative told the meeting the matter was 'well in hand' with Gardai conducting patrols and continuing to monitor the situation.
