Over 2 thousand commencement notices were issued for new homes in Galway so far this year.
It's almost double the figure reported for the entirety of last year.
In the county, there were over 1,100 notices issued between January and September - compared to 890 for the whole of 2023.
And in the city, the figure during the same period was 889 - compared to just 282 for all of last year.
Nationally, figures from the Department of Housing claim over 49 thousand commencement notices have been issued for new homes since January.
That's over double the figure reported for all of 2023.
The increase is being attributed to the Uisce Éireann water and wastewater charge rebate, open to developments started before the end of September.
It aimed to support the fast-tracking of projects and making them more viable.
