Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Education Minister says Coláiste na Coiribe in Knocknacarra is one of the schools at the centre of the government's plan to introduce community focused Irish language learning.
Minister Richard Bruton has officially opened the school's new building this morning, where he was welcomed with a performance by the school band.
Students first started using the new building at Ballyburke on Ballymoneen road in October 2015.
Coláiste na Coiribe moved to Knocknacarra due to outgrowing its old premises on the Tuam Road in the city.
The new building has the capacity for 720 students which the school expects to reach shortly.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Minister Bruton said Coláiste na Coiribe is one of the schools which is part of the national roll out of the Irish language immersion programme.
Minister Bruton will visit a number of other Galway schools including Scoil Mhuire NS, Oranmore where he will open seven new classrooms and an ASD unit.
The minister says facilities like this are being prioritised by his department to ensure children can reach their full potential.
Later this afternoon, Minister Bruton will open a new extension at Scoil Iosaf Naofa in Oranmore which includes 4 new clasrooms and an ASD unit.
He'll then attend a special multicultural celebration at Merlin Woods Primary School in Doughiska.
Later, the minister will visit St Brigid's College in Loughrea to open it's new permanent extension.
The extension features 5 general classrooms, an engineering room, science lab, home economics room and construction studies room.
Minister Bruton's final engagement will be a trip to Coláiste Chilleáin Naofa in New Inn Ballinasloe.
He'll officially open the school's new extension, which includes 4 new classrooms.
