Clifden native passes away at the grand age of 106

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The funeral will take place tomorrow of Clifden native Eileen Lovett - who has died at the age of 106

Eileen, who was one of Ireland's most senior citizens had lived in Galway city in later years.

Formerly Eileen Lyden and she was born and brought up in Market St. in Clifden where her family ran a bakery business.

Lyden's was one of the premises burned down when the Black and Tans attacked a number of locations in Clifden in 1921. Eileen was ten years of age at that time.

A few years later, at the age of 12, Eileen could drive a car - a Ford Model T owned by the family at the time. Her association with Ford Cars lasted a lifetime and was highlighted by the company. She bought her last car of 23 Ford cars at the age of 98 and all of them were purchased at Higgins Garage in Galway city.

Eileen often returned to her native Clifden and she celebrated her 100 birthday in Connemara - that is seven years ago

A Nurse by profession, she remained in good health up to the final years of her life.
