City house prices rise 3 percent despite Covid-19 pandemic

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A new report has found that average house prices in Galway City have risen by 2.9 percent in the last year, while prices in the county have remained static.

The Real Estate Alliance House Price Index shows the Covid-19 pandemic has had little impact on house prices nationwide.

Despite fears of a downturn in the market during the crisis, the price of a three-bedroom semi-detached house across the country fell by just 0.15 percent over the past three months to 235 thousand euro - an annual decline of 0.56 percent.

According to the report, the average price of a 3-bed semi detached home in Galway City has risen to 287 thousand euro, while the average price for the same property in the county remains at 165 thousand euro.

Sligo has seen the largest average price increase in the province at 3.8 percent - with Mayo recording the biggest drop down 4.1 percent.

Real Estate Alliance spokesperson Barry McDonald says market activity has picked-up since the easing of lockdown restrictions....
