Galway Bay fm newsroom - The city council is allowing the redevelopment of a hotel at Headford Road in the city despite earlier concerns about the scale of the project.
Lintal Commercial Ltd. had applied for planning permission for the redevelopment of the Maldron Hotel, Sandy Road.
The proposed development comprised the conversion of basement offices to a gym and changes to the existing bar and kitchen areas at ground floor level.
Existing ground floor retail units would be transformed into a conference centre and meeting rooms.
There would also be the conversion of rooms at first, second, third and 4th floor levels into new bedrooms.
The redevelopment would provide for 20 new bedrooms in total.
The company also sought retention for permission to keep 14 bedrooms it constructed at the first floor.
Planners expressed concerns about the plot ratio for the development and requested further information from the applicant.
The council has now allowed the redevelopment of the city's Maldron Hotel, subject to 9 conditions.
One condition stipulates that no additional windows can be installed in any elevation of the building without a prior grant of permission.
Also the conference facilities must be used as part of the hotel and can't be sold or let out separately without prior permission.
