Galway Bay fm newsroom - A city councillor will today raise a proposal to change the zoning on the site of the former Corrib Great Southern Hotel from enterprise and commercial, to residential.
There have been ongoing calls to secure the future of the site following multiple incidents of anti-social behaviour and arson.
The site at the Dublin Road is owned by the Comer Group and was registered as derelict in early 2017.
Independent City Councillor Declan McDonnell is to raise the motion to change the zoning from 'enterprise, light industry and commercial' to 'residential' use when the local authority meets this afternoon.
He says the owners have had two meetings with planners on their vision for the site but zoning remains an issue.
Councillor McDonnell says the motion will kick start the first step in the process which would take around six months to approve. Tune in at 11 to hear more...
