City Councillors have voted to reject recommendations to increase Local Property Tax by 15 percent.
In a presentation to members last night, management outlined a hole in the local authorities finances to the tune of some €7m.
They recommended the increase of 15 percent to offset some of the potential impact on public services.
But the vast majority strongly opposed the demand, citing the unrelenting pressure of the ongoing cost of living crisis.
County Councillors also recently voted to reject any increase to Local Property Tax for the same reasons.
Mayor of Galway, Councillor Eddie Hoare, says as we face into budget day, they don't want to add to people's struggles.
