Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Government is being criticised over what’s being described as an ‘absurd’ lack of progress on the long- promised affordable housing scheme for the city.
Councillor Mike Cubbard's concerns follow a meeting of the housing committee of the city council last evening, where members heard it will be a least 3 years before the council will deliver affordable homes.
The Minister for Housing announced the scheme last year which is expected to help low-to middle-income earners secure a home.
The Independent councillor says an update provided on the scheme did not include terms of reference or income limits - and confirmed that no sites have been identified.
Councillor Mike Cubbard says a 'real appetite' is needed to move the scheme forward.
The scheme is to be brought before the next meeting of the city council on the 13th of May.
Councillor Declan McDonnell says regulations will ensure there will be no waiting lists for houses on the scheme. For more on this story tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
