Galway Bay fm newsroom - A city councillor says one-parent families in Galway are facing an uphill childcare battle.
Councillor Pauline O'Reilly says Galway has one of the highest proportions of one parent families at 29 per cent of all families.
This is above the national average of 25 per cent.
The Green Party councillor says the Children's Minister is aware of an anomaly in the system for one-parent families but has failed to act.
One parent payments stop once a child turns 7, having previously been paid up to the age of 14.
