City councillor resigns following serious allegations

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway city councillor, Owen Hanley, has announced his resignation following recent allegations made about him online.

Announcing his decision to step down on Facebook, city councillor Owen Hanley stated he believed resigning was the "correct thing" to do.

It comes as allegations were made on social media about the Social Democrats politician.

In his resignation announcement, Hanley described the allegations as "very serious matters" which will "take a considerable length of time to be investigated fully by the appropriate authorities."

He added that he does not intend to make any further comment in relation to the matter.
