Galway Bay fm newsroom - A city councillor is calling on the Minister for Education to prevent the prospect of a 41 student class at Menlo National School.
Independent councillor Michael Cubbard says parents of fifth and sixth class students have been advised that pupils will face class grouping with one assigned teacher for the upcoming academic year.
According to councillor Cubbard, the Menlo school is eight students short of the required number needed to gain an extra class teacher.
The councillor says the school has considered asking the 41 parents in question to assist in funding an extra teacher.
However he argues this isn't a realistic solution and the Minister of Education needs to intervene.
