The plans include a mix of full road closures, evening closures from 6pm and reducing traffic to a one-lane system in certain cases.

In the Westend, both Ravens Terrace and the Small Crane will be fully pedestrianised, evening closures will be introduced along Dominick Street Lower and William Street West, while a one-way traffic system will be implemented at Dominick Street Upper.

In Woodquay, traffic will be closed on one side, while at Forster Street traffic will be reduced to one-lane in the evening time.

The City Council is also proposing to deliver additional outdoor dining areas on Middle Street by infilling the parking areas to be utilised by hospitality businesses.

In Salthill, extra space will be created by removing parking spaces and increasing the width of footpaths, as well as adding additional family friendly public picnic areas at the old tourist office and in Toft carpark alongside the playground.

Meanwhile, 11 parklets with cycle parking and six traditional parklets will be also installed across the city over the coming months.

The Local Authority has confirmed that all proposals will be operated, from June 7th until September 30th, on a trial basis and subject to change depending on feedback.

Fianna Fail City Councillor John Connolly says the plans will give businesses the chance to welcome customers back this summer.
