Galway Bay fm newsroom - The provision of a dedicated visual arts space for the city is set to be discussed at the next meeting of the city council.
The motion, being proposed by Councillor Clodagh Higgins, will call for the vacant site used by the Galway International Arts Festival for its festival gallery, to be repurposed for local arts groups.
The arts festival gallery took place in a vacant An Post building behind Brown Thomas at William Street over the course of the festival, with over four thousand people attending each day.
Minister with responsibility for An Post, Richard Bruton, visited the site during the festival following an invitation from Galway/Roscommon TD Denis Naughton.
A meeting has also been planned with Culture Minister Josepha Madigan in order to gain her support for the project.
Cllr Higgins says it's important to keep the arts space - tune in to FYI Galway@5 to hear more...
