City Council says it has resolved communications failure at Briarhill junction

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The City Council says there has been a communications failure at the Briarhill junction, resulting in traffic disruption

In a statement issued to NewsBreak in the last few minutes the council says the failure followed works on the upgrade to the traffic lights over the weekend

Spokesperson Uinsinn Finn says the council's Transport Section is currently working on resolving the fault and it has engineers and contractors on site

He says they have cleared the traffic queues and the fault will be fully resolved this afternoon

Mr Finn adds the junction will be operating as normal for the evening peak traffic

Hundreds of motorists earlier today spent hours stuck in traffic on all approaches to the Briarhill junction

The delays went well beyond peak time, and continued into the early afternoon
