City council passes controversial busking byelaw

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The city council has passed new regulations prohibiting buskers from using amplifiers before 6 in the evening.

It follows discussion of a motion proposed by Councillor Peter Keane and seconded by Councillor Terry O' Flaherty at a meeting of the local authority last evening.

A small group of protestors gathered outside City Hall prior to the meeting to highlight their concerns about such restrictions.

Despite their lobbying, the Mayor, Pearce Flannery used his casting vote to pass the new byelaw which would also require buskers aged under 16 to be accompanied by an adult.
