Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway City Council is owed €112,000 from a 2019 derelict site levy issued to the owners of the former Corrib Great Southern hotel site on the Dublin road.
Director of Services for Housing Dermot Mahon confirmed the figure at this week’s meeting of Galway City Council.
In response to a query from Fianna Fail Councillor Alan Cheevers, Director of Services for Housing Dermot Mahon confirmed the Local Authority is working with its debt management unit, legal advisors and the owners of the former Corrib Great Southern site with regards to the outstanding levy.
Mr. Mahon also confirmed that a Section 11 derelict site notice has been issued and the 2019 figure of €112,500 is based on a levy of 3%.
This levy has increased to 7% for 2020 and the Housing Director said a notice for last year’s levy would be issued shortly.
Finally Mr. Mahon confirmed progress on demolishing the former hotel had been stalled due to level five public health restrictions, however, he said conversations are continuing with its owners to secure a date for the demolition work to begin.
