Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway City Council has outlined additional facilities that have been installed across the city as we head towards the bank holiday weekend.
It follows controversial scenes last weekend as huge crowds gathered - leading to criticism over a lack of public facilities such as toilets and litter bins.
Ahead of the bank holiday weekend, and the return of outdoor dining on Monday, Galway City Council has outlined the steps taken to ensure adequate facilities are in place.
The local authority says it's had additional bins and toilets in place for the last number of weeks, but is now supplementing these facilities in a final "round-up".
There are currently 7 permanent large 1,100 litre bins at key points, as well as 200 smaller litter bins dotted across the cityscape.
In addition to these, an additional 11 temporary 1,100 litre bins have been installed at key areas - such as Spanish Arch, Woodquay, Claddagh Church, Jurys Inn, Claddagh Hall and Raven Terrace.
A number of smaller temporary bins have also been installed at various points across the city.
Meanwhile, over a dozen temporary public toilets have also been installed at key points, in addition to the 11 permanent units already in place.
The new facilities are located at Spanish Arch, Raven Terrace, Mill Street Car Park, Woodquay, South Park, Small Crane, Toft Park, Ballyloughane Beach and Silverstrand.
Galway City Council adds it will have additional staff on the ground this weekend, to carry out litter management and the monitoring of temporary public toilets.
