Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway City Council is examining a number of locations where public realm space could be increased to prepare for outdoor summer dining.
These areas include the West End, The Latin Quarter, Eyre Square, Woodquay and Salthill village.
Two key funding streams are currently available to support such a measure with one such fund open to local authorities to support an increase in pedestrian space and public realm space.
Director of Services Brian Barrett told Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks that the local authoity is working with business groups in a bid to develop space over the coming months.
However, he warned this will bring challenges including where in some cases parking spaces would have to be removed.
He states accessibility will also be a key focus to ensure those with mobility issues or sight impairment are also catered for.
