Galway Bay fm newsroom - Backdating of rent reviews for Galway City Council tenants will now be capped at 12 weeks.
It follows a meeting of the housing committee this week where the proposal to cap arrears was put forward by the executive.
City councillor Mike Cubbard says that 336 households have received notification of arrears totaling over €1000.
He says that in some cases, this was due to a delay in processing documentation and tenants were penalised unfairly.

Rent accounts will now be assessed according to the 12 week arrears cap.
Independent councillor Cubbard says it's a relief for many families who had their paperwork submitted on time.
