Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway City Council is assessing tenders for the provision of equipment to allow public meetings be broadcast live on the internet.
The webcasting would be done through the city council's website, galwaycity.ie.
Councillor Niall McNelis told a meeting of the local authority this week, that he's concerned that the councillors don't have privilege at meetings.
He said that anything potentially defamatory said at a meeting could make the council liable if it's the body broadcasting the live or delayed stream.
The move to webcast meetings has already been approved and Senior Executive Officer, Dermot Mahon told councillors that the PA system will have to be replaced.
It's so councillors can vote on motions by pressing a button rather than raising their hands.
