City Council approves nearly €40k in covid-19 emergency grants

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway City Council has approved nearly €40,000 in grants under phase two of its Covid-19 community call initiative.

The initiative aims to help and maintain the wellbeing of communities and individuals throughout the pandemic.

24 projects have been approved for funding in Galway City with the largest allocation of €8,000 going towards Galway City Partnership for the provision of 8 tablets and 10 laptops which will be used by local community groups and older people who need help to stay connected.

Meanwhile, €5,000 has been granted to Galway Traveller Movement for the delivery of wrap-around services to familes negatively impacted by Covid-19.

Galway Centre for Independent Living is receiving €3,500 for the safe recommencement of its accessible transport service while the Brothers of Charity John Paul Service will receive €2,500 for the provision of training equipment for students.

Other groups receiving funding include Galway Simon Community, COPE Galway, Galway Autism Partnership and Helplink Mental Health.
