Galway bay fm newsroom:
The City Council has allocated 150 thousand euro to Galway festivals through the Tourism Recovery Fund.
The grants have been awarded to events that will attracts visitors to Galway, increase footfall in the city and encourage overnight visits.
30 thousand euro has been awarded to the Vodafone Comedy Festival, the Galway Urban Walking Festival will get 15 thousand euro, while an event celebrating 700 years at St Nicholas' Church has been allocated 11 thousand euro.
Other successful applicants include, the Galway International Rally, the Latin Quarter and the Cuirt International Festival of Literature.
Meanwhile, the Galway Summer Garden, the International Oyster and Seafood Festival and a special production of the Playboy of the Western World were all refused funding because of issues associated with planning permission.
The fund was adopted unanimously at this week's meeting of Galway City Council.
