Galway Bay fm newsroom - Children's Minister Katherine Zappone is expected to brief her cabinet colleagues today on the Tuam mother and baby home site.
The government is to consider the next steps for the site where significant quantities of human remains were discovered earlier this year.
The remains were discovered in March in at least 17 of 20 underground chambers that were intended to be part of a sewage system.
It followed excavation works carried out at the site by the Commission of Investigation.
A sample of the remains were removed for analysis – all were aged from 35 foetal weeks to 2 or 3 years of age.
According to the Irish Independent, the government will today consider the next steps for the site.
This will involve the drafting in of international experts to provide advice on the potential mass exhumation of bodies from the site.
A decision is also to be reached in the coming months to ascertain whether officials believe it will be possible to identify any of the remains.
