Galway Bay fm newsroom - A former president of Galway Chamber of Commerce has been appointed as chief executive of Galway's 2020 European Capital of Culture team.
Waterford native Hannah Kiely will head up the team which will devise an arts programme for the designation.
Ms Kiely has held the role of CEO of HC Financial Advisers and has been with the firm since its establishment in 1988.
She is a graduate of NUIG, GMIT and the Institute of Directors of Ireland.
A staff of 40 is expected to be recruited for the 2020 project, with a creative director to be appointed in July.
It’s expected the designation will lead to increased employment, more foreign direct investment and greater civic engagement across the city and county.
The most significant boost will be in terms of tourism – more than 1 million extra visitors are expected to flock to Galway in 2020, and the boost is predicted to last into subsequent years.
