Census says Galway is Ireland's most multicultural city

Galway  Bay fm newsroom - Galway is officially Ireland's most multicultural city.

The majority of non-Irish residents in Galway city come from Poland, while UK residents are the most likely to set up home in the county.

That's according to the latest Census figures released today by the CSO.

In the city, there are over 4,000 Polish nationals.

That's followed 1,500 African natives, 1,400 UK nationals, and 1,300 Asians.

In the county, the UK is the best represented community - with over 5,200 British natives living in the county as of the 2016 Census.

This is followed by Polish, other EU nationals, and Brazilians.

Overall, there's been a slight drop in the number of foreign-nationals living in Ireland.

Galway was the most multicultural city with 18-point-6 percent of its resident population recorded as non-Irish.
