From Galway Bay FM newsroom- Galway West Deputy Catherine Connolly will be one of the leaders of this year's Famine Walk in Co. Mayo. (21/5)
The event, which first began in 1988, traces the steps of several hundred people who made an 18km journey during An Gorta Mór in search of food.
It's been postponed over the last two years due to the pandemic.
Other leaders this year include activist and author Robbie McVeigh and Community Worker Homayoon Shiraz.
It's been led in the past by prominent figures, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Christy Moore, Gabriel Byrne, Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Arun Gandhi, and and Kim Phuc, the Vietnamese woman pictured as a child running away from a napalm attack on her village.
The walk will take place on Saturday, with walkers to gather in Louisburgh - further details are available on EventBrite.ie.
