Galway Bay fm newsroom - A capital proposal will be submitted in the coming weeks for a primary care centre to serve the west of the city.
Chief Officer Tony Canavan told the Regional Health Forum that the proposed centre on the Newcastle Road in Shantalla would service the growing population in Knocknacarra.
He said no money has been earmarked against it but a strong bid is being put forward.
Mr. Canavan conceded that there is a very significant need for it.

The Doughiska primary care centre which serves the east of the city opened in July 2011.
County primary care centres include sites in Athenry and Loughrea which both opened in 2013.
