Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Neurological Alliance of Ireland has warned UHG needs 13 nurse specialists in neurology in a bid to reduce waiting lists and deliver real improvements in care.

The NAI has launched a campaign to tackle what is describes as a serious shortage of nurse specialists in neurology in the Galway and surrounding area.

The 'Patients Deserve Better' campaign argues UHG is in need of 13 such nurses, and only has four.

Neurological conditions affect the brain and spinal cord and are the leading cause of disability throughout the world including conditions such as stroke, dementia, epilepsy and acquired brain injury.

Nurse specialists in neurology provide a range of services including nurse-led clinics, rapid access clinics, telephone advisory services and outreach services.
