Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway East TD is calling for a fully serviced life boat in storage in Portumna to be reinstated following a water rescue on Lough Derg yesterday.
The RNLI says one person fell overboard attempting to start their boat after an engine failure, and was recovered by two others, who got into the water to help him.
It's understood one person suffered from hypothermia, and all three were transferred into the care of the ambulance crew.
The rescue boat that attended the incident was dispatched from Killaloe in Tipperary on the far side of Lough Derg.
However, Deputy Anne Rabbitte says a 300,000 euro rescue boat is currently being stored in Portumna Fire Station following the withdrawal of funding by the county council over a year ago.
