Galway Bay FM Newsroom – There are calls for parents to support Gardaí to reduce incidences of outdoor gatherings by young people in the west of the city.
City Councillor Clodagh Higgins has raised concerns after up to 100 young people congregated at a patch of waste land near Miller's Lane on Saturday evening.
It's understood Gardaí broke-up the gathering shortly after 9 pm and had to maintain a presence in the area until approximately 3 am in order to keep the situation under control.
Councillor Higgins says she received a number of calls from local residents who were highly distressed by the situation.
She argues their quality of life is being impacted as they are unable to sleep or enjoy their amenities due to youths gathering in the area.
The Fine Gael Councillor is calling for a multi-agency approach to address the matter which she says has been going on for far too long.
