Galway Bay fm newsroom - There are calls for Galway County Council to explore potential uses for Toghermore House and other HSE owned properties in Tuam.
At a recent meeting of the Regional Health Forum West, Tuam area councillor Donagh Killilea asked HSE management to welcome expressions of interest for unused sites in the area.
Councillor Killilea is proposing that the HSE allocate some of the lands at Toghermore to the local authority - for the development of tailored housing and assisted living units for older people.
Toghermore House was vacated by the HSE several months ago to refurbish the unit for future use as a coronavirus isolation centre.
A spokesperson for Galway County Council says there have been no discussions with the HSE regarding Toghermore House or its lands to date.
Councillor Killilea says the site would be an ideal location for the development of services for older people.
