Calls for City Council to take urgent action over illegal fires in Doughiska

There are calls for Galway City Council to take urgent action regarding a series of illegal fires that have taken place in Doughiska.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor Alan Cheevers says the Council and Gardai should undertake a full investigation into the source of the fires .

His comments come as a second fire was started in a site owned by the Local Authority at Doughiska this week.

Meanwhile, the City Council has confirmed that a competition is currently underway for a contract to clean up the site, which includes the erection of a palisade fence to keep trespassers out.
