Calls for additional planning resources for Galway County Council

Galway Bay fm newsroom - There are calls for additional planning resources to be allocated to Galway County Council.

Galway East TD Sean Canney says the Local Authority's planning capabilities need to be reviewed as part of a wider assessment of the planning process nationally.

It come as the Office of the Planning Regulator has announced a review of resources in each council across the country.

With an average of 400 planning applications per annum, the county Galway planning office is one of the busiest nationwide.

Deputy Canney argues that despite this, the office has a very small number of planners who are working under increased pressure.

He says this needs to be recognised by the planning regulator....
