Galway Bay fm newsroom - The government is being urged to tackle the lack of student accommodation in cities such as Galway, Dublin and Cork.
Young Fine Gael says student rents in Galway city have risen by a third in the past year.
The government recently published the National Student Housing Strategy which aims to deliver 21 thousand student housing units by 2024.
However, Young Fine Gael claims this is of little benefit to students looking for accommodation in Galway over the next 6 weeks.
Séamus Kearney from Young Fine Gael says the government needs to promote other ways of providing student accommodation.
