Galway Bay fm newsroom - The city council, as well as heritage and military groups, are being urged to join together to upgrade a memorial arch in the city centre.
The arch at Newtownsmith was dedicated in 2000 to Irish men and women who took part in all events around the world to defend democracy.
Councillor Niall McNelis says the arch has not been maintained and its appearance is disrespectful to the memory of those who it represents.
Councillor McNelis is urging the local authority to begin refurbishment works.
Meanwhile, a wreath will be laid by the Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel and veterans this coming Sunday at St. Nicholas' Church Market Street after the 11a.m service.
