Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway County Council is being urged to consider more short-term flood defence works that could be carried out in Clifden.
The matter was raised at a meeting of the Connemara municipal district, where Councillor Eileen Mannion said local people are "hugely concerned" about the situation.
She accepted that a major flood relief scheme for Clifden is currently in development, but pointed out that it will take years to complete.
That project is currently at such an early stage that the OPW cannot give even a rough estimation for when it might be brought to fruition.
Speaking in response, senior engineer at Galway County Council Damien Mitchell said some small measures have already been carried out in Clifden.
He also said the local authority is also looking at some other small interventions around the town.
Councillor Mannion says people in Clifden need reassurance in the shorter term while they wait for the permanent solution - to hear more, tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour
