Galway Bay fm newsroom - A city councillor is calling on Gardaí to put plans in place to deal with potential house parties over the Christmas season.
The matter was raised at this week's meeting of the City Joint Policing Committee by councillor Alan Cheevers.
He argued that with wet pubs and nightclubs closed, an escalation in the number of house parties is inevitable.
Chief Superintendent Tom Curley said while there isn't a particular plan, Gardaí remain vigilant and are acting on illegal gatherings.
He offered that Gardaí attended 12 suspected house parties last weekend - and also acted to prevent a planned 'Christmas Jumper' night organised by students.
