Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Connemara councillor is calling for active travel measures in the region to be "ramped up" as a matter of urgency.
Addressing this week's meeting of the Municipal District, Councillor Alastair McKinstry said there's been barely a single metre of new cycleway in the West in recent years.
He argued the Connemara Greenway is being progressed at a snail's pace - while a proposed route between Barna and Salthill is going even slower.
He highlighted the urgent need for a range of infrastructure including cycle lanes, improved bus shelters, and lockable bicycle stops.
Councillor McKinstry argues it's about supporting new modes of commuting for a sustainable future.
