Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway TD is calling for urgent action on what she's calling an "astonishingly dangerous" backlog in gynaecology appointments.
Deputy Mairéad Farrell says there are currently more than 30 thousand women nationwide waiting for an appointment in Irish hospitals.
She points out that of these, almost half are waiting longer than six months, while almost a third have been waiting more than a year.
Sinn Fein Deputy Farrell notes that over 250 women are waiting more than 18 months at UHG.
She acknowledges that a curtailment of services has been unavoidable due to Covid-19, but is warning that a "perfect storm" is brewing for a major crisis in women's health.
Deputy Farrell argues whatever resources are needed must be urgently secured by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly.
