Galway Bay fm newsroom - County officials are being urged to prioritise road safety measures in the Corrandulla Loughgeorge and Bawnmore areas following a series of road crashes.
The latest incident took place yesterday afternoon when a truck overturned near Bawnmore National School as it traversed the local road regularly used by heavy goods vehicles.
A further two vehicle collision took place in the Grange area of Corrandulla at the turn off for Caherlistrane just before 6pm last evening, in which one car was overturned.
Independent councillor James Charity says the volume of traffic and logging trucks using local roads in the area poses a serious danger and recurrent collisions highlight the urgent need for road safety measures.
He says there are 3800 vehicle movements daily between Loughgeorge and Cregg Castle which put significant pressure on the local route.
Councillor Charity says locals are concerned that without action, the area will see fatalities.
