Buskers argue bye-laws will be less effective than voluntary code

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway's busking community argues that new bye-laws to regulate the activity will be significantly less effective than the group's voluntary code.

The new rules are set to come into effect at the start of January after they were adopted following heated debate at City Hall last evening.

They mean amplification and acts that attract large crowds, known as 'circle-acts', will be banned during key business hours.

In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, Galway Buskers' Community says the situation has created an ‘us and them’ environment in the city.

They argue it will also enable discrimination against the busking community by leaving interpretation of the bye-laws vague and open to abuse.
