Galway Bay fm newsroom - Burglaries in the city were down by almost a third between January and June compared to the same period last year.
The latest garda figures were presented at a meeting of the City Joint Policing Committee this week.
The report shows that burglaries in the city were down by 31 per cent, while theft from cars was down by 2 per cent.
There was a 25 per cent increase in thefts such as mobile phones and purses.
Chief Superintendent of Galway Garda Division says extra resources will be deployed in the city next week, Race Week, to target groups who may come in to the city to steal phones and bags.
