Galway Bay fm newsroom - A boil water notice in Gort, imposed at the start of February, could remain in place for up to 10 more weeks.
It's as Irish Water is awaiting specialist filter equipment to address a mechanical fault at Gort Water Treatment Plant.
The notice affects around 2,800 people supplied by Gort Public Water Supply.
Alternative water supplies in the form of bulk tankers are in place at Church Street and in the Punchbowl Estate on the Ennis Road.
Irish Water says it acknowledges the impact the ongoing notice is having on the community and apologises for the inconvenience.
Ronan Daly, Asset Operations Lead at Irish Water, says the delay is due to to difficulties in global supply chains at the moment.
