Galway Bay fm newsroom - A body has been found during a search for a missing hillwalker in Connemara.
Galway Mountain Rescue Team was called to an area near Leenane to search for a male hillwalker missing since 4.30 yesterday afternoon.
The Dublin man in his 50s had been walking alone on the northern end of the Maamturk Mountains.
The experienced hillwalker last made contact with a family member at approximately 4.30 yesterday afternoon from a location known locally as the 'Col of Despondency.'
A body has been located on the eastern side of Leenane Hill this afternoon.
Members of Galway and Mayo Mountain Rescue teams and Gardaí are currently working to recover the body from the mountain.
Meanwhile, the Galway Mountain Rescue Team was called to another incident at Máméan, after a woman who was hiking sustained a leg injury.
Mayo Mountain Rescue Team, which had been on its way to join the search near Leenane, were diverted to Máméan to help the woman.
The hiker has been safely rescued from the mountain, and is receiving medical treatment.
