Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over a third of all births to take place in Galway in the first three months of this year were registered outside of marriage or civil partnership.
It marks a lower percentage than the national picture.
There have been 814 births across Galway city and county from January to March, according to CSO figures.
289 of those were registered with parents who are not married or in a civil partnership, which accounts for 35 percent of all births across Galway.
Nationwide, there were 16,131 babies born, which is over two and a half thousand more than the same period last year.
7,040 births were registered as outside marriage or civil partnership in Ireland, accounting for 43.6 percent.
