Galway Bay fm newsroom:
A bathing ban has been put in place for the Grattan Road Beach in the city as a result of heavy rainfall over the weekend.
The rainfall along with two overflow incidents at Mutton Island Waste Water Treatment Plant and high tides, led the city council to enact a precautionary bathing ban on the adjacent beach.
This is the first overflow incident at the Mutton Island Plant in over a year and a half, with the last taking place in January 2018 during Storm Eleanor.
Advisory notices of possible pollution have also been erected at several Salthill Beaches.
The city council will conduct water sampling at Grattan Road Beach and Ballyloughane Beach during high tide tomorrow, with the ban remaining in place until further notice.
