Ballinasloe to host major Catholic conference to mark Fatima centenary

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A major international conference to mark the centenary of the apparitions at Fatima will take place in Ballinasloe in May.

The story of the famous miracle in the Portuguese town dates back to May 1917, when three young children claimed to have encountered the Virgin Mary.

The Ballinasloe conference will present the entire message of Fatima, examine recently released documents and explore fuller explanations for the events of 100 years ago.

The two day conference will also feature lectures by international members of the clergy, a question and answer session and a theological round table discussion.

The event will be televised by American Catholic broadcaster EWTN to an international audience of up to 450 million people.

The Fatima Centenary Conference will take place at the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe on May 19th.

Director of the conference, Professor William A. Thomas, says the message of Fatima is as relevant today as it was in 1917.
